Mythology
“The series of paintings derive from my abiding fascination for the mythologies of Ancient Greece. The ancient Gods and Goddesses, each with their own stories to tell, have been a magnet for my imagination and creativity for several years. The ethereal and elusive subject matter strongly lends itself to expression through the mediums of mixed media. The process of layering of images, collage and the paint creates a metaphor for the layering of time. The paintings become the ancient fresco or wall with the surface scraped back to reveal lost images and knowledge. Some of this knowledge defined and some just beyond our grasp. It is the element of the mysterious which defines and inspires the work. |
"The
mythological works are mixed media ( acrylic, collage, gesso, charcoal,
pastel, conte) on Arches 300gsm paper. They are not on stretched canvas
and need to be framed under glass."
